Prototyping is one of the biggest topics on the minds of
today’s user experience professionals. We’re having vigorous debates about the right way to do it on mailing lists, Twitter, and when we meet face-to-face.
This talk will absolutely NOT show you the right way to prototype, because there
isn’t one.
What this talk WILL show you is how to determine what, for your particular situation, is the most effective way to use prototyping to improve the user experience of your site or software. You will learn about the factors that influence how effective various prototyping methodologies will be, and how to choose wisely. You will learn about what level of effort you will need to invest in prototyping in order to get useful feedback depending on where you are in the software lifecycle.
Lastly, you will learn how to permanently integrate prototyping into your software development process in a way that is effective for your organization. Recently, the increased popularity of prototyping has encouraged some to see it as a panacea. Inappropriate prototyping efforts fail, and that failure can turn an organization against prototyping in general. But you can prevent this mistake by using the right prototyping method at the right point in your process.
